Autumn Ride

Autumn Ride

Last Sunday we met in a group of six air-cooled cars – five bugs and one Trabant – at the parking lot on the Kahlenberg, where normally our Late Summer Ride takes place. Due to the fact that we couldn’t host it this year because of organisational reasons, we decided to make a smaller version for ourselves and made a trip trough the Vienna Woods.

Flo’s new bug

Flo’s new bug

Flo bought a bug from 1962. He found it on the internet as he was in america and made the deal to pick it up when he’s back. So Flo and Robert a good friend of him went there two weeks later to get the car. There was no rear axle built in and one door is missing. Back in Vienna they put in a correct gearbox and a door. Also they put in a customized tank. Thank you Robert…

Air-cooled at the lake

We had a great time at the second “Luftgekühlt am See” which was again top organised by the Käfer-Club Obergrafendorf. Among the 170 vehicles there could be spotted some very nice ones before chilling at the lake with a cold beer. What more could you ask for?

They also visited the “Neon Museum” to see some of the old signs which they keep the history and to…

Touring with Herbie trough the US

Touring with Herbie trough the US

Domi and Flo are already cruising around to see the beauty of America. They went from Ridgecrest to Yuma, Tucson, Flagstaff, Mexican Hat and yesterday to Green River. On their way they saw famous places like the Grand Canyon, Highway 95, Monument Valley and the popular street from Easy Rider. Sadly as they drove away from Monument Valley Herbie’s windshield broke! So they had to get a new one and went all the way (about 350 miles) to Kustom Coach Werks – a great aircooled shop-…

After two weeks of welding…

Flo has already known it for a long time, his loved bug from 1966 is verry rusty! He decided to do it the right way and seperared the car in two parts so he could repair it like it was new. He put in a new heaterchannel, a cross memper under the rear seat and a repair section for the rear quater panel. He also did a lot of welding in the front and rear wheelhouses and the firewall. Today a small group of us visited the annual “Oldtimer Messe” in Tulln. We arrived very early to secure ourselves a place in the parking lot inside of the area reserved for vintage cars only, so we could also be part of the exhibition. Many well known people of the scene could also be found there.

All good things come in threes

All good things come in threes

After two of our members got themselves a panel van – Flo with his ’63 split window and Benjamin with his late bay – the next logical step for Gregor was to buy an air-cooled van of the third generation. It’s from 1980 and comes with a 2.0 litre type 4 engine.
