Finally 100 people follows our channel on Vimeo with nearly 600(!) videos of our favourite cars!
The co-founder of DLV and our dear friend, Flo, is celebrating his 25th birthday today. Therefore we all wish you, Flo, a happy, happy birthday and all the best for your next quarter century!
‘63 Ragtop now in Flo’s possession!
This Lego model of a 1962 camper is available for more than one year, but now we also got one! Sorry for the bad pictures…
Domi, Flo, Friedrich and Max have worked on Domis Trabi to get a new look. They grinded four rims, primed and painted them in L87 Pearl White, like Herbie looks like. After drying Zainab spent new tires to make the car safer for the winter. Also Domi and Flo rebuilt an old “Taxi” sign and wrote “Trabi” on it. They took the old frame and construct a new glowing plate. The car looks great now! So it is ready for…
Domi turned 30! Therefore we celebrated his big birthday in one of Vienna’s pubs called “Morgenstern”. Many friends and family members came to congratulate him. Special thanks go to Flo, Friedrich, Eva, Heinz, Gabriel, Michi, Georgy, Fabi, Christian, Benjamin, Matthias and of course Zainab who made Domi the most marvelous present. They surprised him with a “Trabant” station wagon from the old GDR (DDR).
After our trip to VolksWorld Show this year we decided to visit the phenomenal Le Bug Show on the 2nd and 3rd of August 2014! It will be our first time there and if you are also interested by traveling in convoy to this great event please contact us: firstname.lastname@example.org
If you can’t hold on buying old cars you have to look for more space. Therefore we bought a farm in the middle of nowhere to store them.

A short video about the ‘84 Mexican. Stay tuned!
… but each time nice to watch!
Last weekend Benjamin and Georgy went on a mission to welcome a new aircooled vehicle – prodotto in Italia – into our community. A Vespa PK 80 S from 1985 with a 120ccm engine. The perfect ride for the upcoming time of the year, isn’t it?!
DLV came together at the last Altblech FNC for this season with three members of our community. Once again there were a lot of cars to take a look at. But make yourself a picture!
On our way back from Korneuburg – with some fresh powder coated parts loaded – we decided to use the cable ferry across the danube. Noticed the sign in the background? “25tons or 40 passengers” – Come on, the Austrian population is far from 625kg a person!
Here are more pictures of this year’s “Late Summer Ride” taken by Domi from Herbie’s World Tour.
Yesterday we held our meeting for the second time on the great parking space on Viennas Kahlenberg. It was a great time with great cars and their lovely drivers! We want to say thank you all for coming and your support!
… to the DLV Late Summer Ride 2013
Last weekend it was time to go “Home to Fürstenfeld”, like in the austrian song by STS. Benjamin, Chris, Flo, Georgy and Fabi visited the show which takes place every second year. It was a great day with over 400 aircooled VW’s. Have a look: …sadly the meeting endet quickly because of a heavy shower!
On the weekend we visited a gathering of air-cooled Volkswagens in Angern an der March, right at the border to Slovakia. But it was so hot at that day (104°F or 40°C in the shade), that we just spent a couple hours at the meeting. Now we’re looking forward to our annual event called “Late Summer Ride” on September 15!
Yesterday we visited the “20th bug meeting Lengenfeld” in Lower Austria. Also Chris hit the road in his buggy – the first time this season, to be one of estimated 150 rides.
Friedrich and Matthias reorganised the parking space in Upper Austria, so they had to move the trailer to an other place on their property. During the moving process they had to pick up some wood planks from the saw mill. Thus they connected the trailer to a Trabbi from Friedrich and drove to the saw mill… As it happens to be the trailer is a little bit longer than the actual car. Greetings from Upper Austria!
Last weekend we visited the 2nd VW Beetle Show of Nappersdorf in our province of Lower Austria. Together with all the other visitors we drove to the border of the Czech Republic and the so-called “Excalibur City”.
“Cuñado” means brother in law in Spanish. In their circle of early bus friends they use the term as a bond between others that transcends the split window bus. Cuñado is a mindset and camaraderie developed through owning and maintaining early split window buses, camping, grilling out, and attending car shows and swap meets.
June 28 is the official birthday of Walt Disney’s Love Bug. Therefore we’re celebrating Herbie’s 50th anniversary this year and especially on this particular day, even though our Love Bug wasn’t manufactured on that exact date. But one is for sure, 1963 is the year in which Herbies all around the world were made. Happy Birthday! Domi celebrated Herbie’s B-Day together with our friends Georgy, Matthias and Florian (from left to right) and their Beetles at a vintage car show…
Flo has trade his 1303 body to this ‘55 Oval bug with the rare “Golde” sunroof. Georgy can proof that Flo alwas wanted to have an Oval and a T1. Maybe it’s the nex project car after the bus is finished. Will see…
Today, June 22, we’re celebrating the International Day of the Volkswagen Beetle.
Today Domi and his friend Matthias, nephew of Friedrich Hübsch, picked up a 1960 Volkswagen Bug in the very South of Burgenland, one of nine Austrian provinces. The black Beetle resides in its original condition. It still has the original paint, six volt and 1,100 cc with 30 horsepower. And it seems like that this vehicle has never been welded. The only question remains is, who the next owners will be? Either Katharina, a friend and DLV club member of…
Matthias, Georgy and Domi visited the biannual air-cooled Volkswagen show in Laxenburg. More than 100 vehicles showed up – from Beetles to Kombis and Buggies to Brezels. Thanks to the “VW Beetle and Bulli Lover’s Club Laxenburg” for that wonderful day. The DLV – Aircooled Community are patronizing you.
Yesterday we visited the legendary “Hot Summer Nite” at the SCS (Shopping City South). A lot of air-cooled Volkswagens and Porsches attended the show. Here the pictures:
Panscrapers Barcelona joined Vimeo with two awesome videos. Of course added to KdF-Channel!
Although we are an “Aircooled Community”, we couldn’t avoid coming across water on the streets of Eastern Austria. Domi tucked away Herbie safely on a hill and is driving Trabi these days – Herbie encountered enough “watering obstacles” on his way round the world. Yesterday Domi and his friend Flo (from DLV) inspected some local flooded roads.
The South African adventure travel magazine “Drive Out” features a story on Herbie’s World Tour in its latest edition including six full pages about Herbie’s “gravel travel”.
Herbie and his friends from “DLV – Aircooled Community” visited the monthly “Friday Night Cruising by Altblech” at the SCS Shopping Center in the South of Vienna.
I digged in the deeps of Vimeo and made a big update!
After going through an expedition in Friedrich’s storage last weekend, Matthias found a new car-jack for his bug. It took an hour to overhaul until the car-jack worked again. There were huge amounts of rust and mud, which blocked the mechanics of the jack. Matthias used a 240 grain sand paper to remove the rust of the shaft . After cleaning all parts he lubricated the jack with gear grease.
A few people braved the bad weather and visited the meeting in upper austria.
Flo has spontaneously bought this Trabant 600 or P60 from 1963. First he only want to polish the car, fix the brakes and complete the missing parts. Beside the P60 you can also see Friedrich’s P50 or Trabant 500 from 1958.
A preview of the forthcoming Luft13 film project celebrating Aircooled Volkswagens worldwide brought to you by Stephen Brooks Films
We arrived back home! Safely! Herbie made it again – and this while pulling a caravan the long way round Africa. Our dream of traveling this last missing continent (except Antarctica of course) became actually reality. Since September 2009 we visited 80 countries while driving two Volkswagen Beetles from 1963 with campers in tow for more than 115,000 miles (or 185,000 kilometers) around the globe. We need a break and Herbie a pit stop! Therefore we’ll stay home for quite…
This year, the VW Bug meeting in Eggenburg celebrated its 23rd anniversary. DLV visited the biggest event of its kind in Austria for the fifth time. About 550 aircooled vehicles were counted, here are some impressions.
