Next to the Slovakian border, the most eastern bug meeting in Austria took place this weekend in Angern an der March. We travelled there with four cars and had a great time while chatting and sipping beer next to the fishpond, where you could also go for a swim. It was the 7th time the Retter Deutschen Kulturgut’s hosted their event and all in all there was no anger in Angern.
For the 19th time the Strudengauer Käferfreunde organized their meeting next to the small town of Grein. This year for the first time on the opposite side of the danube which was a nice location with a great view. To get there is always worth the trip which brought us through the cultural landscape Wachau, a Unesco world heritage.
Gregor got lucky as he did not look after his bus for a few months while it was stored by a friend. For his 30th birthday he got surprised with a partial restoration including the whole welding job, primer coat and the reconditioning of the Type 4 engine. Watch out for the upcoming posts!
The start of the Motor Nights series for this year sadly took place during really poor weather. But nevertheless a few enthusiasts of the combustion engine made the trip to the new location near the famous Lusthaus. As always there was a wide range of cars at this all-brand meeting what makes it a monthly must-see.
It was the 29th meeting in Eggenburg which we visited with five beetles. The annual gathering on May 1st is always worth a visit and was our season opener for this year.
Following the tradition which started with Domi’s 30th Birthday a few years ago – to give a really special present – we surprised our good friend Flo for his jubilee with a 1960 Vespa 150 VBB. We knew before that he was looking for a Vespa from this time with all the characteristic features and we also knew that he loves patina. So it has to have the original paintjob, or in our case it was underneath some olive green…
After the Motornights as we know it were banished from Korneuburg, this month’s gathering took a twist and was held in the Freudenau which is part of the 2nd district of Vienna. New location new problems, because at the same time next to it a golf and riding tournament took place and we all shared one parking lot. But all this didn’t stop the cars of all types and years taking part at this season finale. The new place obviously hasn’t…
The 15th of September marked the 6th Late Summer Ride hosted by DLV. Held at the parking lot on the Kahlenberg – the local mountain of Vienna – this event always attracts drivers from the City, Lower Austria and beyond. The main part is the common ride over the famous Höhenstraße, where we built up a convoy of about 60 vehicles. If you’re looking for a relaxed Saturday cruise at the end of summer, bring up your air-cooler and visit us…
Today we visited the first Motornights in 2018 which take place every first Friday from May to October. The number of cars and visitors was enormous at this season opener in the old shipyard in Korneuburg. Check out the pictures and get sure not to miss the next event on 1st of June.
For the 28th time the international bug meeting in Eggenburg took place. It wasn’t the season opener for us but always a annual must in spring. Over 500 cars attended, so a few of them had to park outside because there wasn’t enough space. Maybe they shouldn’t have let so many water-cooled cars inside in the first place…
Last Sunday we met in a group of six air-cooled cars – five bugs and one Trabant – at the parking lot on the Kahlenberg, where normally our Late Summer Ride takes place. Due to the fact that we couldn’t host it this year because of organisational reasons, we decided to make a smaller version for ourselves and made a trip trough the Vienna Woods.
Last Sunday we visited the biennial bug meeting in Fürstenfeld which took place in the area of the outdoor pool. More than 350 cars were counted, among them three Schwimmwagen. Here’s a small selection!
We had a great time at the second “Luftgekühlt am See” which was again top organised by the Käfer-Club Obergrafendorf. Among the 170 vehicles there could be spotted some very nice ones before chilling at the lake with a cold beer. What more could you ask for?
Every second year the VW-Käfer und Bulli Liebhaberclub Laxenburg hosts a meeting at the old campsite in their hometown. We came with four bugs and true to the motto “quantity rather than quality” we didn’t get a top ten award but a prize for being the second largest club at the event.
Today a small group of us visited the annual “Oldtimer Messe” in Tulln. We arrived very early to secure ourselves a place in the parking lot inside of the area reserved for vintage cars only, so we could also be part of the exhibition. Many well known people of the scene could also be found there.
In the last five years we collected over thousand videos about air-cooled Volkswagen on the so called “KdF Channel” on Vimeo. Check out vimeo.com/channels/kdf and enjoy the huge collection which ranges from old commercials to fully restored dubs and show reports of the most famous events.
It’s time again! On the first friday every month from May to October the old shipyard in Korneuburg is the venue for the well-attended event “Motor Nights”. Get yourself an impression.
Today was the kick-off of the meeting season for us. With five bugs we travelled to the 27th international bug meeting in Eggenburg. Especially for Jan it was a very successful visit, who made the second place in the category special class with his 1600i “Open Air”.
The last of four entries shows the summer lawn where the bulk of the buses have parked. It’s always a fantastic experience at the VolksWorld Show – trip to Esher has fully paid off!
The grand stand area allowed the local clubs to present their cars in really nice weather this year.
Downstairs in the Esher hall there were some well-known cars which you have probably spotted on one or the other cover of a back issue.
In a group of eight we traveled to this years VolksWorld Show to the U.K.. This entry shows the vehicles in the Surrey Hall, one of four display areas at Sandown Park.
After two of our members got themselves a panel van – Flo with his ’63 split window and Benjamin with his late bay – the next logical step for Gregor was to buy an air-cooled van of the third generation. It’s from 1980 and comes with a 2.0 litre type 4 engine.
Yesterday we celebrated the end of the season at the monthly Motornights in Korneuburg.
Today was the 5th anniversary of our annual meeting. Despite having some difficulties and organisational problems in the planning process, we had a great day and time to catch up with our air-cooled friends. Allthough it was rather cold and windy, 40 rides made their way up to the Kahlenberg parking lot. Unfortunately we couldn’t provide an extensive catering this year, but we had hot coffee and sweet snacks. As a special treat we had a giveaway with beautiful air-cooled…
