Autumn Ride

Autumn Ride

Last Sunday we met in a group of six air-cooled cars – five bugs and one Trabant – at the parking lot on the Kahlenberg, where normally our Late Summer Ride takes place. Due to the fact that we couldn’t host it this year because of organisational reasons, we decided to make a smaller version for ourselves and made a trip trough the Vienna Woods.

They also visited the “Neon Museum” to see some of the old signs which they keep the history and to…

Touring with Herbie trough the US

Touring with Herbie trough the US

Domi and Flo are already cruising around to see the beauty of America. They went from Ridgecrest to Yuma, Tucson, Flagstaff, Mexican Hat and yesterday to Green River. On their way they saw famous places like the Grand Canyon, Highway 95, Monument Valley and the popular street from Easy Rider. Sadly as they drove away from Monument Valley Herbie’s windshield broke! So they had to get a new one and went all the way (about 350 miles) to Kustom Coach Werks – a great aircooled shop-…

Le Bug Show 2016

Le Bug Show 2016

For the second time we traveled in a group of five bugs and nine people to the very famous bug show at the Circuit de Spa in Belgium. We were fascinated as much as last time when we saw all the nice rides of the air-cooled vehicle range of Volkswagen. Time passes quickly when there is so much to see and to do like watching the drag races, driving your bug over the 7km long track behind the pace car…

International Alpe-Adria bug meeting 2016

For the eleventh time the 1. Kärntner VW-Käferclub organised their biennial meeting for all air-cooled Volkswagen in Bodensdorf at the Ossiacher Lake, which we always look forward to. Our group of ten elephant feet tail lights featured some specials like a jubilee bug and the “Open Air” of our new member Jan. Benjamin mounted his new wheels and Christian brought his old Buggy back on the streets – still without roof and braving the weather. But luckily most of the…

The last station of our trip was the AutoMuseum next to the Autostadt in Wolfsburg where we got a fascinating insight into the product history of Volkswagen. Among the main exhibits are many rare concept vehicles, prototypes and one-off models.

Autostadt Wolfsburg – ZeitHaus

Autostadt Wolfsburg – ZeitHaus

One day after the meeting in Hannover we visited the Autostadt in Wolfsburg, the home of Volkswagen. The ZeitHaus chronicles the history of the car – from an exclusive item for the very wealthy, to a necessity for the masses.

The Moped Riders

The Moped Riders

Last weekend Flo and Domi where driving to Flo’s property in Lower Austria. While they were driving through the so-called “Wood Quarter” – the northwestern part of the province, they got to know an older gent who’s repairing and selling motorcycles. Domi returned with two mopeds. He bought a “KTM Hobby” from 1984 and a vintage “JAWA Stadion” from 1964 – both in good working condition. Now Flo and Domi are both looking forward to ride their mopeds in the…

Herbie’s Got a Friend

Herbie’s Got a Friend

Today Domi and his friend Matthias, nephew of Friedrich Hübsch, picked up a 1960 Volkswagen Bug in the very South of Burgenland, one of nine Austrian provinces. The black Beetle resides in its original condition. It still has the original paint, six volt and 1,100 cc with 30 horsepower. And it seems like that this vehicle has never been welded. The only question remains is, who the next owners will be? Either Katharina, a friend and DLV club member of…

Pulling a IFA F9 from the former DDR to Austria

In order Flo and FloW get to Germany to bring Friedrich a new ride. He bought this IFA F9 from 1955 online. It is a three cylinder twin-stroke-engined car. The F9 is simmilar to the DKW 3=6. It takes the Flo’s this time only 23 hours for the whole trip. Very fast, when you think they have to go home by only using countryside roads.   The guy who sold this car is an big DDR enthusiast! He bought his…

Going to Berlin

Domi and Flo went to Berlin to get Friedrich one of the famous caravans called “Dübener Ei” and a Trabant which he had bought on eBay. Christopher was also there in order to buy a Trabant wagon. The condition of the vehicles was more than bad out of the Trabant from Christopher. They fix the trailer as best they could and set off for home. It was a troublesome journey with a refractive apart trailer, and a non-braking Trabant.

This week Domi and Flo drove to Bavaria, Germany, where they picked up again another Volkswagen Bug “1600i” for their friend Friedrich. On the way, Herbie made a stop in Salzburg, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Flo and Domi strolled around downtown and had a little coffee break. They enjoyed this trip a lot!

Domi and his friend Flo made another trip to Germany in order to pick up a blue Volkswagen Bug from 1989 for their friend and mechanic, Friedrich. Two Guys & Three Cars

Domi and Flo drove to Germany again, in order to pick up two cars – a Trabant for Friedrich and another Bug for Flo. They decided to go there in a VW pulling a special tow bar. They were just two guys driving three cars, but everything worked out! On the way to Germany Flo and Domi met Friedrich and his “Última Edición” (right) – a Volkswagen Bug from 2003 – close to his family home in Upper Austria.

Herbie Turned Into A Tractor

Herbie Turned Into A Tractor

Domi and his friend Flo took Herbie for a ride to Bavaria, Germany. On their way Herbie lost all case studs of one of the cylinder heads. The wildest nightmare got reality, but the Love Bug made it back to Vienna safely. Domi noticed a weird and loud noise in the back. He knew immediately that Herbie is loosing his right cylinder head, where cylinder one and two are operating. It got worse and Herbie lost all case studs. Flo…

A Ride to the Top

A Ride to the Top

The elevation of Quito, Ecuador’s capital, is 9,200 feet (or 2,800 meters), making Quito the second-highest capital in the world, after La Paz, Bolivia. Yesterday’s evening we took a ride together with our air-cooled VW Beetle friends, the “Catso Club” and its “Latin Volks”, to “Virgen de El Panecillo”, the major monument of Quito’s hills. And as we promised this before: “San Francisco de Quito, we love you!”

This bug burnt two liters of oil on 700 kilometers and we almost lost the exhaust! …but we arrived safely in Vienna.
