…but so Flo could made a nice shot of his panel in front of the “Jubiläumskirche”.
Today, imported from Italy: 1963 panel van.Flo has bought this bus on eBay. Although he had never seen it, he must have it. And the condition is as good as expected. Italian climate has not let it rust as strong than austrian cars did. Although it is a lot to do but that doesn’t worry Flo. Tomorrow he want to fix the starter and look if the engine works.
“KidsKrone”, the Austrian magazine for the young, just printed a story about our tour around the world in Herbie. This journal for kids is out now in the stores!
On Sunday, the the first Advent Sunday, our dear friend Domi had birthday. We want to wish you all the best. It is a pleasure to have a friend like you! We hope you Zainab and Herbie are well and we are looking forward to the next report! Take care of you in Africa!
After saying “good-bye” to our family and friends we started a new chapter of Herbie’s World Tour by heading all the way to Genoa, Italy, where we’ll go on board a cruise ship named “Fantastic” by “Grandi Navi Veloci” to Tangier in Morocco, Africa. We drove about 1,000 miles (1,600 km) through Austria and Italy. We reached our destination, Genoa, on time. Herbie and the camper are waiting outside while we’re connecting to the world wide web at a fast…
Flo has bought once again something new. This time it should be a caravan. On the internet found and immediatly bought. A “Dübener Ei” from the year 1982. It has the VIN 1062 which also corresponds approximately to the time produced pieces. There is still a lot of work in the vehicle but Flo hopes to get it back on the road in summer. Details to his current vehicle fleet soon. Here are some details and the history about the…
We are glad to welcome Christopher and his ‘61 bug called “Eisenstein” in our Community!
Today Flo realized his idea of a portable soundsystem made of a petrol can.
Tickets now available. Don’t miss it!
We thought it’s time for a new banner picture for the DLV-Blog. So Christian, Benjamin, Domi, Flo, Georgy and Ali met last weekend with their rides at the car park of the Shopping Center Nord in Vienna. After that we visited Friedrich at his garage. The small one-way street counted one buggy, two Trabants and nine and a half Bugs!
Domi and Flo went to Berlin to get Friedrich one of the famous caravans called “Dübener Ei” and a Trabant which he had bought on eBay. Christopher was also there in order to buy a Trabant wagon. The condition of the vehicles was more than bad out of the Trabant from Christopher. They fix the trailer as best they could and set off for home. It was a troublesome journey with a refractive apart trailer, and a non-braking Trabant.
Domi finished his work on the engine of Herbie No. II. Instead of the fuel injected 1,600 cc, the Love Bug got now his original 1,200 cc back. The motor came from a burnt out Volkswagen Bug made in Mexico. Domi installed new cylinders and pistons as well as an additional modern type oil filter. Herbie is now ready to go A-F-R-I-C-A! Flo from DLV and Friedrich helped Domi putting the “new” engine together and also surprised him with a…
Last weekend some of my collegues went on a trip to visit Prague (Czech Republic) and had the chance to took some pictures of aircooled cars. Some of them with extensive modifications you won’t see in Austria.
This week Domi and Flo drove to Bavaria, Germany, where they picked up again another Volkswagen Bug “1600i” for their friend Friedrich. On the way, Herbie made a stop in Salzburg, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Flo and Domi strolled around downtown and had a little coffee break. They enjoyed this trip a lot!
Recently we cut a Volkswagen Bug into halves and hung its passenger’s side up on the wall of Friedrich’s shop in Vienna. The Bug is from the mid 90ies made in Mexico. See the hanging Bug at Helenengasse Viaduktbogen 23 in Vienna’s second district!
This week, Domi and Flo made a trip over 1,700 miles (about 2,700 km) to Germany. They picked up a Volkswagen Bug “1600i” (fuel injected 1,600 cc) from 1995 for their friend and mechanic Friedrich. They also got some special spare parts for him. Flo and Domi started their trip in the morning and were gone for almost 48 hours. On the freeway they met a Volkswagen Bug “Ovali” (with the oval rear window). The picture above shows its proud…
Take yourself two minutes and enjoy this evolution!
Here are more pictures of the first “DLV Late Summer Ride”, which took place yesterday.
Today our first meeting and public ride over the famous Höhenstraße in Vienna took place. Over 50 aircooled vehicles were counted – much more than we had expected – and this causes a little traffic-chaos. Nevertheless we are happy about our event and look forward to next year with a bit more organization and maybe more members too! Thanks a lot to all who joined our Late Summer Ride! More pictures on Herbie’s World Tour Blog from our DLV-Member and…
On September 16, there will be the first public air-cooled drive called “Late Summer Ride” along Vienna’s longest street, the world famous “Höhenstraße” winding through the forest of Austria’s capital. You can find more information by following this link or by clicking on the picture below!
Herbie’s World Tour got featured in the latest version of “The Campervan Life” – a British air-cooled VW magazine. By clicking on the article below you’ll get to its website. As you’ve probably read the article above, Herbie is still looking for sponsors for his ongoing trip around the world. If you are interested in supporting the Love Bug, please get in touch with us! We would love to have you as a part of Herbie’s World Tour!
Spiting the sketchy weather we visited this meeting for the first time and it was also the first trip for Benjamin’s “Dirty Old Mexican”! Chris earned much respect for coming in his roofless (!) Buggy even though it was raining heavily!
Domi and his friend Flo made another trip to Germany in order to pick up a blue Volkswagen Bug from 1989 for their friend and mechanic, Friedrich. They left Austria on Wednesday in the evening and got back Friday morning. However, as it transpired, this trip should get a challenging and nerve wrecking adventure for them. The tow bar was a back up if they couldn’t get the blue VW running. The engine was dismantled and they had to put…
This is the story of the California Look. Started back in the 60’s no other style was as influential or important to the Volkswagen scene. They just get Older n’ Faster! Also check out other Aircooled Volkswagen Videos on our KdF-Channel!
Today Chris, Benjamin and Georgy visited the first time the annualy meeting with two vehicles. In this small town there is also a VW museum where we have taken a look at. The common ride took us to the Puch museum in Judenburg. The VW museum… … and the Puch museum
Also the Buggy got a new home. Flo decided that it is about time to leave old things behind and concentrate on new aircooled stuff. Since his Buggy became a kind of identifying feature for our community it was pretty clear for us that it has to stay in the DLV-family. So Chris bought the Buggy from Flo.
Georgy’s bug is now sleeping on his new garage place in Vienna!
Domi and Flo drove to Germany again, in order to pick up two cars – a Trabant for Friedrich and another Bug for Flo. They decided to go there in a VW pulling a special tow bar. They were just two guys driving three cars, but everything worked out! On the way to Germany Flo and Domi met Friedrich and his “Última Edición” (right) – a Volkswagen Bug from 2003 – close to his family home in Upper Austria.

Domi and his friend Flo took Herbie for a ride to Bavaria, Germany. On their way Herbie lost all case studs of one of the cylinder heads. The wildest nightmare got reality, but the Love Bug made it back to Vienna safely. Domi noticed a weird and loud noise in the back. He knew immediately that Herbie is loosing his right cylinder head, where cylinder one and two are operating. It got worse and Herbie lost all case studs. Flo…
Christian, Georgy, Flo, Matthias and Domi visited the 4th Friday Night Cruising by “Altblech” – a community for classic cars in Austria. Every last Friday of the month vintage cars from all over meet at the parking lot of SCS – Vienna’s biggest shopping center.
Five DLV air-cooled Volkswagen visited the 19th VW Bug Show in Lengenfeld, Lower Austria, today.
Yesterday, the newsmagazine “Heute” published something about Herbie’s World Tour. The picture was taken in the Atacama Desert of Chile on our trip across South America. We’ve already done 150,000 kilometers so far and our 34 horsepower are still running.
It is time for the 19th VW Bug Show in Lengenfeld, Lower Austria. It will take place from Friday to Sunday. We’ll be there on Saturday. If you are interested in following our convoy, don’t hesitate to contact us!
Yesterday, we, “Die Luftverkühlten” (or DLV), took a ride. Four Bugs and a LT followed the route of our “Late Summer Ride” (LSR) which will take place in September. Afterwards we sat together in Domi’s former family home chatting about VW stuff.
Herbie No. II and Flo’s ‘66 went for a ride, with two trailers in tow, the other day. They picked up a completely disassembled VW Bug from 1984 and a moped, which they got from various auctions. Domi bought the old Beetle just because he needs its engine. We’ll have to figure out what we’ll do with all the other parts of the car.
